New Direct Livestream Unveils Story, Characters, Classes, and Dungeon Details for Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave

Nintendo hosted a dedicated Direct livestream this week for its upcoming tactical RPG entry, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave, offering fans their first detailed look at the game’s narrative, playable cast, class system, downtime activities, and dungeon exploration.

The plot centers on an event known as the Heroic Games and follows four newly introduced protagonists: Cai, a young man determined to rescue his father; Dietrich, a skilled swordsman; Theodora, a reigning queen; and Leda, a musician driven by a desire for vengeance. Throughout the game, players will be able to wander the capital city of Dagsion, pick up new skills at designated training grounds, add allies to their roster, and venture beyond the city’s borders. Sothis, a character first introduced in 2019’s Fire Emblem: Three Houses, also makes an appearance in this installment.

As a turn-based tactical RPG, Fortune’s Weave brings back the series’ signature weapon types — swords, lances, axes, bows, gauntlets, and magic. Beyond standard attacks, units can unleash more powerful Combat Arts that consume weapon durability, as well as special Blaze Arts that draw from a character’s own health instead. Every class handles weapons and movement range differently, and units are sorted into three tiers: Beginner, Specialty, and Advanced. The roster of classes revealed so far includes shido, bardingers, bishops, gladiators, diviners, ornius riders, armored knights, wing riders, charioteers, cataphracts, guardians, and elephant riders.

Outside of battle, the game’s Free Time segments let players roam Dagsion, put units through their paces at the training arena, shop for gear and supplies at the marketplace, seek blessings at the Temple Row, sit for certification exams to unlock class promotions, take on side quests, scout for new recruits, and rest at local inns. A location called the Pale Raven’s Perch lets players toggle between the four lead characters, enabling their individual storylines to progress simultaneously. On the overworld map, players can engage in skirmishes against roaming enemy groups or head into dungeons, where combat shifts to a format closer to traditional turn-based RPG battles.

Separately, the official Japanese X/Twitter account for the Fire Emblem franchise confirmed that a prologue manga tied to the game will debut on September 4. It will run in Shueisha’s Saikyō Jump magazine as well as on the Shonen Jump+ website and app, illustrated by Kazurō Kyō, the artist behind the Fire Emblem Engage manga.

Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is set to launch on Nintendo Switch 2 on September 17. A collector’s edition, called the Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave Dagdan Collection, will also be available, bundling a steel game case, character art cards, a map of Dagda, and an artbook.

The series’ prior mainline entry, Fire Emblem Engage, was first revealed as a new strategy RPG and went on to launch for Nintendo Switch in January 2023.
